ABOUT OLSON WIRE PRODUCTS

THE HISTORY OF OLSON WIRE

Mr. H.E. Olson founded Olson Wire Products Company in 1938, while he was employed by a contractor overseeing  wire work programs for inmates at the Baltimore City Jail.  Mr. Olson arranged with his employer to purchase steel wire from the contractors  supply.  At night,  Helmer Olson along with his son Royce fashioned wire mesh muzzles for horses and mules.  In time, with the encouragement of his son Royce, he was able to quit his regular job and  start a full time business and live off the earnings from the products they  manufactured  themselves.

With time, the number of types of wire products produced expanded to include items such as pamphlet holders for the local bus company, cake cooling racks, record racks and similar products, all manufactured at the Company’s downtown location  in a garage on Clarkson Street.

In 1953, Olson Wire Products moved to its current location on Benson Avenue, far out of town at the time.  By the early 1960’s the product line started to look similar to today’s products, including grill grates, refrigerator racks, stove racks and similar mesh framed products.

Today, Olson Wire Products remains a family business, operated by five grandchildren of the original founder:  Randy, Gary, Stanley, Nancy and Jay Olson.  Olson Wire Products is well regarded in the industry for its quality and dependability.
